Before setting up a business it is good to check if the business is subject to licensing. Under special legislation some lines of business require a license to ensure safety of the society and environment
The following lines of business require a licence:
- sales, import and manufacturing of alcohol
- healthcare services
- ambulance services
- taxi and other professional traffic services
- driving school
- fuel trade
- explosives trade
- guns trade
- security services
- electrical instalment services
- travel agencies
The following lines of business are subject to notificating officials:
- sales of groceries
- working as a doctor
- working as a nurse
- treatment services of children, handicapped and elderly
- gym services
- massage services
- beauty service
- barber shops
- real estate brokerage services
Licenses are granted by municipal and city officials, police distinct and ministries. Also environment and living habitat changing procedures require a environment permit. Some lines of business require a notification to the officials, although license is not needed.

>> Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes)
>>The National Supervisory Authority for Welfare and Health (Valvira)
